Halloween Movie Experience – Reviews by Stella Wembley (Depeche Mode M VS Frankenstein by G. De Toro)

If you are wanting to watch one, or both the movies, you may find my reviews helpful (hopefully). Happy Halloween!

Depeche Mode M

I was eagerly anticipating a documentary-style compilation of the band’s live performances, releases, and musical impact over the past thirty years.

However, the film was nothing more than excellent footage, with multiple cameras and angles, of the band performing live in Mexico.

Note the poetic tone and some historical anecdotes about Mexico, as well as the connection between death and sex, among other themes, depicted in the lyrics, which are commented on in Spanish.

Dave Gahan is always awesome in his presence and performance, as well as Martin Gore; but you can see this in many other live concerts , and it’s not something “cinematic” to show in the movies.

In conclusion, a great live performance and excellent footage, but not worth paying ยฃ20 for. And this review is by an extremely devoted fan; I am not saying it’s not worth watching it, but just not quite sure the price is right for what you are getting.

Frankenstein by G. De Toro

Frankenstein by G. De Toro. A phenomenal experience. It’s truly rare these days to see quality films, and such an excellent representation of a classic like Frankenstein.

Absolutely not to be missed. From the very beginning of the film, a plot begins to build that gradually engages the viewer more and more. Macabre, many of the scenes are, I dare say, borderline splatter-like, due to the amount of blood, dismembered bodies, etc. (without going into detail, but truly gruesome), which follow one another constantly and obsessively throughout the film.

Not that I didn’t digest them, as the emotional and psycho-drama aspect present in the film diluted the horror scenes well.

The lead actor is truly fantastic, and an Oscar-worthy award for the film’s director for this masterpiece. One final question remains: what is more painful than knowing you have to live forever, given that there is never an end? existentialism.
